Jack

When Jack and Cali arrived back home that Monday afternoon, first they spent half and hour sitting and walking by the lake.

Watching the succubus walk barefoot beside the water, Jack was once more struck by the contradictions she presented. Now, she once again seemed like a normal human woman, standing and laughing in the water, slipping and almost falling into it when a startled fish startled her in turn, giggling and pulling him in alongside her as if they were lovers. Just like during their drive through town, Cali’s delight was so ingenuous and unfeigned that Jack almost felt things were normal between them.

But of course things weren’t normal. And this fact was soon rammed home to him again.
